Talking GM API Key Instructions

Talking GM does not provide an AI account. Create a key with the provider you choose, copy it into Talking GM Settings, and keep it private. Provider usage and charges belong to the customer's provider account. Talking GM support will never ask a customer to send a key.

OpenAI

  1. Sign in to the OpenAI API Keys page.
  2. Create a secret API key and copy it when OpenAI displays it.
  3. In Talking GM, open Settings and paste it into OpenAI Key, then save Settings.

An API account and billing may be required. A ChatGPT subscription does not itself supply API usage.

Google Gemini

  1. Sign in to the Google AI Studio API Keys page.
  2. Create or select a Gemini API key and copy it.
  3. In Talking GM, open Settings and paste it into Gemini Key, then save Settings.

Google recommends treating the key like a password and managing billing and usage in the associated Google Cloud project.

Serper search (optional)

Serper is needed only when the customer wants Talking GM's implemented web-search function.

  1. Create or sign in to an account at Serper.
  2. Copy the API key shown by Serper.
  3. In Talking GM, open Settings and paste it into Serper Key, then save Settings.

Storage and troubleshooting

Talking GM stores these keys in private application storage on Android or the iOS Keychain. Keys are used only for direct requests to the selected provider. They are excluded from Talking GM Server records and customer-initiated troubleshooting packages. If a key may have been exposed, revoke it at the provider and create a replacement.
